Maple Pumpkin Pie & Candied Maple Pecans Recipe

I have a confession to make, I typically don’t like pumpkin pie. Most pumpkin pie recipes are a bit bland for me, or they just taste like nutmeg and cinnamon. I decided I would manipulate a pumpkin pie recipe so that I would eat it. What flavor other than pumpkin makes you think of Fall? I love the smell of maple, and the crunch of pecans, This pumpkin pie is infused with maple flavor and topped with crunchy maple flavored candied pecans; it is a great alternative to your traditional pumpkin pie recipe.

An alternative to your traditional pumpkin pie, this maple infused pumpkin pie is topped with crunchy candied maple pecans.
Ingredients
  • Filling:
  • 1 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 15 ounce can pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) or 2 cups cooked pumpkin
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon maple extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Topping:
  • 2 cups pecans
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon maple extract
  • ½ cup sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Prep your pie crust and press it into a 9-inch pie pan.
  3. Add all of the filling ingredients and mix well.
  4. Pour into pie crust.
  5. Cover the rim of the crust with aluminum foil to prevent scorching.
  6. Place pie in the oven, and turn the temperature down to 350 degrees.
  7. Bake for 50 minutes total, but remember to remove the aluminum foil at 30 minutes.
  8. Line a rimmed baking sheet or pan with aluminum foil.
  9. Beat egg white until it starts to appear white instead of clear.
  10. Fold in maple extract and sugar.
  11. Fold in pecans until thoroughly coated.
  12. Pour them into your pan.
  13. Bake for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees, stirring every 10 minutes.
  14. I baked my pecans and pie simultaneously in the same oven, but you could bake them separately.
  15. Allow the pie to cool, and scatter pecans on the top.

Don’t look at my pie crust and panic. I don’t like the rim of the crust, so I roll mine. Pie crust design is a personal preference. My grandmother had a meltdown in the kitchen once because I topped her apple pie with a lattice crust. This pie is good served with whipped cream just like a traditional pumpkin pie.
