Hall Farms Chickens: Wordless Wednesday

This is a semi-Wordless Wednesday post about our new chickens. We had a surprise arrival Monday, 21 baby chicks. We knew they were coming, we just thought they were shipping Monday and not arriving. The post office called while we were getting ready to take the dogs to the vet saying we had something that needed picked up immediately. We were only partially prepared for their arrival and we started scrambling to finishing setting things up. I was thankful Jeremy had finished the brooding box the night before. Sadly we lost one chick last night. We have ten Black Australorps and ten Barred Plymouth Rock, and they’re suppose to be all girls. This will be the first flock of chickens for Hall Farms. I’ll share some other photos later, I’m trying to let them adjust before we handle them too much.

Do any of y’all have chickens? Any favorite breeds or breeds that you hated? We went with brown egg layers with this bunch. Jeremy hopes to add Buff Orpington eventually and I would like  Lace Wyandotte. I would eventually like an Easter Egger, but I haven’t read good reviews about the breed other than they produce pretty eggs.

FYI.. we ordered our girls from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries in Ohio. I have no affiliation with them, but we are pleased with our chicks so far.
