When I started dating after Gabe’s father and I split, I realized that I wasn’t just dating to find a husband but I needed to be with someone who would be a good father figure for Gabe. I knew it might be tough to find someone who I thought would be good enough to help raise the most important person in my life.
I won’t lie and say that I knew Jeremy would be the perfect role model. He was a few years older than me, had never been married, and had no children. He had a career as a college professor that he was devoted to, and his only parental type experiences were from entertaining his very young niece. I took a leap of faith and introduced him to my son after several weeks of dating. I would occasionally remotely watch their interactions from a distance, and I was amazed at how quickly they bonded. I took the photo above on Jeremy’s farm the fall after we started dating. He took Gabe and I fishing, and I managed to capture Gabe catching his first fish.
Jeremy has grown to love Gabe just as he would love his own child. He tries to set an example of honesty, loyalty, hard work, and faith. He has taught Gabe to fish, work in the garden, read books, and occasionally to play Super Mario Bros. Gabe in turn has taught Jeremy that sometimes its okay to just laugh, that life isn’t always so serious, and he’s helping me teach Jeremy to swim.
Gabe was just 3 years old when Jeremy and I started dating nearly two years ago. Jeremy performs the day to day tasks of being a father in Gabe’s life, and Gabe looks to Jeremy for guidance. He isn’t meant to replace Gabe’s biological father or his time with him, but he helps ensure that Gabe has a father 100% of the time. I’m happy I got to witness Jeremy’s voyage from stranger to friend, and friend to dad. Gabe and Jeremy created a parental bond, and Jeremy became a dad to Gabe.
Gabe loves cologne; he likes to sneak the occasional squirt on his clothes because all of the guys wear it. He even had to test out cologne while we were shopping at Macy’s, and the Nautica Voyage received his seal of approval. He is excited to gift the Nautica Voyage Gift Set to his “Daddy Jeremy” this Father’s Day. I think it is practical enough that he can wear it while on the farm in Kentucky, or when he is in his sport coat and bow tie teaching at Rutgers.
The Nautica Voyage Gift Set includes:
- 3.4 oz Eau de Toilette
- 2.5 oz Aftershave Balm
- 2.5 oz Shower Gel
- 1 oz Eau de Toilette
I purchased this gift set at Macy’s for $65.00. You can also purchase it online through Macy’s here.
They’re also offering a pretty sweet giveaway. You can enter using the widget below.
