I’ve always been a little jealous that my sister got the hair and makeup genes in our family. I never wore much throughout high school and college because I never knew how to properly apply most of it. I would sit and watch others meticulously apply it, and I was amazed at how “put together” they looked. It wasn’t until I was in my mid twenties that I started attending social events frequently, and I became frustrated that I couldn’t apply my own makeup. I decided to take an inexpensive makeup lesson with a local makeup artist, and that changed everything. She taught me about basic contouring and how to apply eyeshadow and eyeliner for my face shape. Makeup made me look and feel more confident, and I wanted to collect it all, but makeup can be expensive. I love when I find quality wallet-friendly products so I can try new options. I’m showing you my $30 Maybelline Makeup Bag Makeover, which includes the new Maybelline Falsies Pushup Drama Mascara.
I love a good quality inexpensive makeup find, especially when I can pick it up without making an extra trip to a specialty store. I purchased all of these products in the health and beauty section of my local Walmart; Maybelline nearly had an entire aisle of products. My goal was to spend around $30, and that can be stretched further if you find coupons.
I purchased the following items: (remember price might vary slightly depending on store location)
- Maybelline Falsies Pushup Drama Mascara $7.47
- Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara $6.94
- Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Liquid Foundation $6.99
- Maybelline New York The Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palette $9.40
I generally have to change my foundation as we transition into the fall and winter months; I generally wear a shade lighter than I do during the summer. It’s recommended that you toss your mascara and eyeliners after two to three months to decrease the likelihood of eye infections. Products like eyeshadows can be used for a year or two.
Here’s what I look like with no makeup and just a good coat of moisturizer. I just celebrated my 35th birthday (gasp; time flies when you’re having fun), and I’m starting to get a few fine lines.
I use a damp sponge (I replace them frequently) to apply foundation to my entire face. My cheeks are naturally rosey, so I don’t routinely use blush. I might use a contouring powder if I’m going to an event or date night, but I generally don’t use it during the day.
I’m absolutely in love with the Maybelline New York The Blushed Nudes Eyeshadow Palatte. The colors are gorgeous for any season and the shadow blends really well.
I used the shadows in the top two corners and the third shadow on the right bottom of the palette. I used the darkest color as an eyeliner to do the corners of my upper and lower lash line.
Excuse the weird looks in the photos, I’m not used to being photographed and Jeremy had me giggling the entire time. It’s hard to keep a straight face when someone is telling you to stop “snarling your nose up” among other things.
I’m picky about mascara because I have short, fine, and light lashes. The Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama mascara is comparable to specialty store brands. The cup shaped bristles scoop, coat, and lift lashes. The mascara is volumizing without making my lashes feel heavy. It goes on smooth and it lasted all day without flaking.
*Make sure you allow your first coat of mascara to dry completely before applying a second coat. I never realized this helps prevent clumping until a friend told me a few months ago. Waiting just a few extra seconds can completely change the look of your mascara.
I used a quick coat of the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara to help tame my unruly but tweezed brows, and in less than 5 minutes (and about $30) I have a fall makeup look that can last me all day.
This is the nose snarl he was talking about, and it’s apparently worse when I’m laughing.
Maybelline has an entire selection of mascaras available at Walmart.
What do you think of my fall look? When was the last time you replaced your mascara?
