Everyday Essentials & Holiday Surprises

Acorn Disclosure

Every holiday season is filled with joy, surprises, and yes, also stress. I spend all year looking forward to baking holiday treats, decorating inside and out, and going out in search of that perfect gift. Some of the best surprises are unexpected visits from friends and family who are dropping off cards, sharing holiday recipes, or just stopping to take a look at our decorations. These unexpected visits are a wonderful part of the holiday season, except for the unexpected part. I always stress just a little more about making sure the house is neat and clean around the holidays in anticipation of that unanticipated ring of the doorbell. I never know when family or friends will stop by. My mom came by just last weekend to visit, but I managed to recruit her to help me clean. Thankfully a run to Sam’s Club allowed me to build a stockpile of paper towels, detergent, and other cleaning supplies to help get my cleaning done and my house ready for guests.

I’ve also grown a bit dissatisfied with my shopping experience this year. Like most families, we have turned to the internet to help fill all of those special wishes, but I’ve had several orders canceled, delayed, or delivered incorrectly this year. I had one company deliver the wrong item not just once, but twice; I still don’t have what I need. Sometimes it’s a relief to be able to shop in person where you can see what you’re taking home, or find something you hadn’t considered.

My favorite part of shopping at Sam’s Club is surprise finds; I never know what brands or items that I might find when I’m browsing the aisles. This is really handy when you’re shopping for someone and you don’t have an ideas in mind. Sam’s Club has a large selection of books, clothing, housewares, furniture, and toys. I even found a few things that were on my son’s list for Santa (thank goodness he is too young to read) including the new Skylanders Superchargers on sale for under $40; it retails for $69. The money I saved was put toward other Christmas gifts. Jeremy purchased a large gift for his mother, and she had us pick up a trampoline for Gabe for Christmas. I even recently purchased a new King size brand name mattress during a sale.

Our Sam’s Club always has a large selection of Carter’s sleepers and outfits at great prices. I purchased this one for my nephew to go with his Christmas presents from us.

Aren’t these pillows beautiful? I really wanted one of each.

Two of my favorite finds at Sam’s Club are these Marquis by Waterford wine glasses and Mason Jar beverage dispensers; they help make entertaining guests easier and much prettier. I’ve used them for multiple parties.

When I use Sam’s Club Pick Up, I can order everyday essentials online and pick them up at the store; I have more time to browse around the store checking out new inventory that they have in or spend with my family. Some Sam’s Club locations even have curb-side and drive-thru pick up. Sam’s Club members purchasing participating holiday essentials will save an average of $97*

The Bounty paper towels and Tide PODS detergent were ready and waiting for us.

I also picked up some holiday party essentials. Sam’s Club is one of the few locations near me that carries Coca-Cola imported from Mexico; it’s made with real cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and it’s in glass bottles. I enjoy serving it at parties. They also have club size packages of baking mixes from your favorite brands that make it easier to bake in large quantities.

Gabe rides through Sam’s Club spotting all of the club size packages of Star Wars merchandise. My five year old is fully convinced that his Campbell’s Soup and Kraft Macaroni & Cheese taste better with Star Wars shapes.

I went with a $150 budget, and we came home with the following:

  • Club size pack of Bounty paper towels
  • 120 Tide PODS
  • 1 Carter’s Sleeper
  • 1 case Campbell’s Condensed Soup
  • 1 case Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
  • 1 giant jar of dill pickles
  • 1 Skylander’s Superchargers Start Pack for Wii U
  • 1 club pack of Betty Crocker Sugar Cookie Mix
  • 1 rotisserie chicken (so I didn’t have to cook that night)
  • 1 case of Coca-Cola imported from Mexico
  • Several books to be given as gifts
