Between leftover wedding cake and our 12 day honeymoon which was the equivalent of eating our way through the Mediterranean, I’ve been afraid to step on the scales. My pants are snug, which isn’t very comfortable. I know that I need to lose weight, but that’s much easier said than done. Now that school is back in session and Jeremy is preparing to teach his fall semester classes, I’m no longer cooking three meals a day. It’s much easier for me to watch my calorie intake when I’m not making meals which are dictated by the appetites and tastes of a 6 year old boy and a 40 year old man. I can also cut out the amount of junk food I have on hand, and make it easier for me to make healthier snack choices. Here is my list of 10 lower calorie snack options to help you make better snacking choices.
I started a series called #WhatIAteOnVacation to showcase some of the things Jeremy and I ate on our honeymoon. We tried many different foods and had at least one gourmet meal a day. I’ve joked that it would be easier to blog about what I didn’t eat on vacation, because I feel like we tried everything. If we hadn’t walked a lot while touring, I imagine that we have gained a lot more weight. I know that I can’t and shouldn’t eat like that every day.
Having nutritious snacks on hand help prevent me from overeating and maintain a steady blood sugar.
10 Lower Calorie Snack Options:
- A serving of fresh fruit
- Light mozzarella cheese sticks– Weight Watchers makes a delicious Mozzarella String Cheese that has 50% less fat and 25% fewer calories than regular String Cheese.
- Greek yogurt
- A serving of cucumber, carrot, and mini sweet peppers
- A hard or soft boiled egg
- A serving of heart healthy, low sodium nuts
- A serving of humus
- A serving of dark chocolate (this helps to quench my thirst for chocolate with nutritional benefits)
- Low fat cottage cheese
Many of these items can be paired with each other and contain essential vitamins and nutrients.
