Have you found the perfect bag for Halloween yet? I wasn’t able to find anything that I liked enough to purchase, so I decide to make one. I created this No Tricks Just Treats DIY Halloween Bag that could be used as a book bag, to carry party supplies, and trick-or-treating. We weren’t waiting until Halloween to fill our treat bags; I found some great variety candy bags with an assortment of our favorite Hershey’s products in each.
I might be partial, but I think that bag is pretty cute. It was super easy to make using my electronic cutting machine, but you could print and cut out the image I created to stencil it on. I also used two colors of vinyl to add some contrast, which could easily be done using paint.
Here are the supplies you’ll need:
- A canvas tote bag
- Vinyl or craft paint
- Stencil template
Here is the template that I created:
Depending on whether you plan to paint the image on or use heat transfer vinyl, your steps will vary slightly. I recommend ironing the canvas bag before you get started.
- If you’re painting, you’ll want to cut out your stencil by hand or with your electronic cutting machine.
- If you’re using vinyl, you’ll want to cut out your heat transfer vinyl (make sure you set your machine to reverse image for iron-on).
- Paint or apply heat transfer vinyl using a hot iron.
These an inexpensive enough that you could make them as gifts for a Halloween party, and this one took me about 20 mins to make (but doing several at once wouldn’t take much longer). They could be used for much more than a trick-or-treat bag. I’ve put my laptop and books down in this one. It would also be handy to hand out treats from it, or to send treats in for a child’s classroom party.
You can also print the image and use it as Halloween themed wall art.
I purchased two bags of candy for my son’s class party and to hand out on Halloween from Walmart. We’ll likely purchase a third because certain household members can’t keep their hands out of these.
I bought:
- Hershey’s Goodies Galore which contains Kit Kat Minatures, Reese’s Minatures, Milk Duds, Whoppers, Health, and Almond Joy
- Kit Kat/Reese’s Miniatures Variety Bag which contain Kit Kat Minatures, Reese’s Minatures, and Reese’s Pieces.
I love that the Hershey’s variety bags has all of my favorite candies in one bag, and it offers options for just about everyone. Personally I don’t want to be known as the house who hands out bad Halloween candy. Who doesn’t love Hershey’s?
Have you ventured down the Halloween aisle yet? What kind of candy do you usually to purchase? Make sure you check out all of Hershey’s Halloween branded candy and variety bags, they’re perfect for parties!

Your bag is really pretty and will hold lots of treats. I admit to buying big bags already too… and hiding in the closet to eat some….
