Taking a ME Day: #MeDay

Have you ever taken a “me” Day? Whether you have or you haven’t, Domain.ME wants you to take one on March 16. They have established ME Day to embrace and celebrate ourselves, so we are better able to care for the people that matter in our lives. I have big plans for ME Day. Thanks to the generosity of Domain.ME, I’ll be visiting a local spa for a few hours of pampering. I’m getting a hot stone massage, a facial, and an express pedicure. I could really use the time to relax and allow my body to recuperate.

I have been going to intensive physical therapy and having traction in an attempt to alleviate the symptoms of a chronic injury/condition. I have a T5 disc compression which is at least partially due to a long-term Vitamin D deficiency. My condition went undiagnosed and caused osteoporosis. I fell on the farm last fall, and it just exacerbated my condition. Physical therapy often leaves me sore and mentally frustrated. I’m still young (at least at heart), and I shouldn’t be hurting. I have an adorable little boy that I want to chase and play soccer with.

I’ve been lousy at caring for my mental, physical, and emotional health. We often fail to realize the long term impact decisions have on our body. I know now that I should have gotten more sleep, visited the doctor for regular check-ups, worn sunscreen and never laid in the tanning bed, and maintained a healthy weight by keeping a consistent diet and exercise regimen instead of binge eating or exercising to drop weight quickly; That’s just the beginning of my list. The bottom line is that I realize the importance of caring for ME and I’m going to try to do better going forward.

  • Take a few hours to do something you enjoy or find something that will help you relax.
  • Check out a book from the library and spend some time reading.
  • Give yourself a DIY manicure and/or pedicure.
  • Take a long, warm bath.
  • Organize your closet so that things are easier to find; this will make your life easier every day.
  • Catch up with an old friend.
  • Discover new hobbies.
  • Revisit an old hobby that you haven’t had time for lately.
  • Splurge by going for a nice dinner or purchase the ingredients to make one.
  • Take a nap.
