After our sons were born (2 months apart), my sister and I stopped buying Christmas gifts for each other. Unless one of us finds something that the other desperately needs, we generally spend it on the boys. The real joy of Christmas presents is seeing the surprised look on their faces. We still like to do thoughtful things for each other. One day, Jeremy was telling me about his grandmother making Potato candy (insert gag here). I messaged my sister to ask her if she had ever eaten it. She told me yes, and said that it wasn’t that bad; you’ll never convince me that a potato will ever make anything tastier than a french fry. Anna dropped a hint that she would love to have some Divinity candy. She said she hadn’t eaten any in a long time, and she especially liked it with pecans. I like the flavor of brown sugar over refined white sugar and I think it pairs better with pecans, so I decided to make Brown Sugar Divinity. I’m taking it over to our Christmas party on Wednesday.

How big is your holiday shopping list? I have a large extended family, a few close friends, teachers, coaches, and a theatre director who were all on my shopping list. Our regular Fedex and UPS drivers make a few trips out to our farm each week, and always handle our packages with care; I wanted to do something for them to show our appreciation too. The costs of gifts for everyone can add up quickly. We use the local Redbox machines to rent movies regularly, and I was surprised to learn that you can buy e-gift cards as well as individual movie rental code bundles. They’re relatively inexpensive, and you could easily gift one or a few. Today I’m sharing a few quick gift ideas using Redbox promo codes and a free printable to share the codes with friends and family. If you want to pair this great deal with other gifts at a reasonable price, you can check out another promo site like SearchPromoCodes to see what other gifts you can save on!

Personalized Pillow: Crafty Christmas

personalized pillow

I’ve made quite a few Christmas gifts using my Cricut Explore since I received it. This year I signed up to participate in a DIY Secret Santa with a few of the other Cricut bloggers. It can be challenging to make something for someone that you don’t know very well; thankfully after a little browsing over on her blog, a few things came to mind. I needed to create something that wasn’t heavy or too big to ship, because she lives a few states away. I’ve been making personalized pillows for a few other friends and family, and I decided it would be a nice gift for her. Personally, I love personalized item and a personalized pillow could be used throughout her home.

They’re super simple to make and they aren’t terribly expensive either. Here’s a quick tutorial, and a run down of where I purchased my supplies.

#HowWeFamily: What’s Your Story?

I have received information from the makers of TYLENOL®. The opinions stated are my own. This is a sponsored post.

What do you look forward to most about the holidays? When I was a young girl, I loved seeing my cousins from out of town. It was the only time during the year that I knew they were coming over and it made me so happy to see them. I remember noticing the look of excitement on my great grandmother’s face because she would have nearly all of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in one house; this is the real magic of the holiday season and this is #HowWeFamily.

Unexpected Gifts At Barnes & Noble

December 8, 2015

This post is sponsored by the Barnes & Noble Holiday Gift Guide, however all opinions are entirely my own.

Do you feel hounded at Christmas time? I can’t count the times that I have been asked, “What do you want for Christmas?” To be honest, I appreciate thoughtful gifts more than expensive ones. Although saying that, you absolutely can’t go wrong with a piece of beautiful jewelry from somewhere like Gema & CO. Personally, I like the thrill of surprising someone with something unexpected that they fall in love with. I can tell when someone puts thought into a gift for me, and I really appreciate it much more than just something I put on a list. I know many people associate Barnes & Noble with books, but did you know they carry lots of other items? Here are a few of the unexpected gifts that I’ve found at Barnes & Noble with a little help from the Barnes & Noble Holiday Gift Guide.
