When I was growing up, I spent nearly every Sunday either at my grandparents’ or great grandparents’ houses. I played with my cousins and we ate dinner together. Sadly, I feel like families don’t visit each other like they use to, or at least my family doesn’t. We seem to only visit during holidays, birthdays (if it’s a big one), weddings, and, unfortunately, funerals. When was the last time you had dinner or visited with your extended family? We spent some time with my husband’s family last week; his grandmother unexpectedly passed away. While everyone certainly grieved her passing, it was nice to catch up with many of them again. My husband got to spend time with his beloved great uncle and he got to meet our daughter for the first time. When everything was over and everyone went home, I just wanted to sit with my husband and relax. There are only a few things that I find more soothing than a nice cup of coffee and a bite of chocolate. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite coffee and chocolate pairings, Starbucks® Holiday Blend Coffee and Lindt Lindor Chocolate Truffles. This Spiced Chocolate Truffle Muffin recipe is lightly sweet with a burst of chocolate in the center. spiced chocolate truffle muffins Continue reading Spiced Chocolate Truffle Muffin: Entertaining Guests

#BestMomsDayEver #CollectiveBias

I remember the excitement of my first Mother’s Day. It is definitely a day I’ll never forget. I know we didn’t have a whole lot of extra money; I was still off work due to a complication from having my son. I received a beautiful card and we went to lunch. It was a perfect day for me. This year another family member will celebrate her first Mother’s Day. My sister-in-law gave birth to my nephew just a few weeks ago. I thought it would be fun to share a recipe that requires no baking and not a lot of culinary skill to reproduce. My brother has limited cooking skills, so this is just easy enough for him to make. This recipe is a great way to introduce children to the kitchen and to show the peanut butter loving mom in your life how much you care. Hopefully this post will give you a little inspiration to help make Mother’s Day the #BestMomsDayEver, and if you scroll all the way to the bottom you can enter a giveaway sponsored by American Greetings.

Chocolate & Tampons: What Do They Have In Common?

The headline pulled you in, didn’t it? It can be be tough to talk about your period, but hopefully with the help of chocolate I can make it less uncomfortable. I remembered as a tween I didn’t want anyone to know I was on my period, even though it was evident given my unpleasant demeanor and my insatiable appetite for chocolate. For years I was mortified to buy feminine hygiene products every month, and this continued through college. I was a cheerleader in college and I was on the swim team for a semester, both sports can be tough when you’re having your period. Bloat combined with bad eating habits before and while I was on my period caused many an ill-fitting uniform. As an adult, I’ve learned to make wiser dietary choices (most of the time) and I definitely don’t have any issues buying tampons. I want to help make your period easier by sharing two things I use to help make mine a little more bearable: Playtex® Sport® and Chia Seed Chocolate Yogurt. The Playtex® Sport® lets me stay active while the Chia Seed Chocolate Yogurt curbs my craving for chocolate and fuels my body with protein and antioxidants.

Rapid Rise Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls

I hadn’t baked much with yeast before I started on my quest to make a cinnamon roll. I probably should have started with something a little simpler, but my household loves a good cinnamon roll. I made these chocolate cinnamon rolls with rapid rise yeast, so they didn’t take hours to rise. These are a great introduction to baking with yeast, and they’re certainly a crowd pleaser.

Coffee Shop Double Chocolate Brownie Recipe

There is a certain large chain coffee shop (hint: the one with the angelic green logo) that has the most amazing double chocolate brownie. It isn’t a chewy brownie or a cake-y brownie; it’s just rich, fudgey and delicious. I combed the internet looking for recipes, and couldn’t find one that was exactly right. Many of the recipes called for espresso, but if you read the ingredients on the label there is no espresso. The brownie is just loaded with chocolate goodness. I added slivered almonds to mine (because Gabe and I like almonds).
