Life On A Farm Can Be Dirty

I may not deal with the cattle, but the rest of the farm can be just as dirty. I spent part of last summer wading through dirt and mud to work in the garden; this year we already have a new flock of chicks and seeds started in greenhouse trays. Gabe is typically in the middle of everything, trying to “help” me. It’s easy for his dirty little hands to wipe dirt and germs near his mouth, and then I have to deal with a sick child. We don’t always have access to soap and water out on the farm, which makes washing your hands nearly impossible. I found a solution to that dirty little hand washing problem. PURELLĀ® Hand Sanitizing Wipes let us sanitize our hands without running in the house to the bathroom or contaminating every doorknob in the house getting there. I also found that carrying around a bottle of Hand Sanitizer Canada was particularly convenient when I needed to quickly sanitize my hands before entering the house.

Hall Farms Chickens: Wordless Wednesday

March 18, 2015

This is a semi-Wordless Wednesday post about our new chickens. We had a surprise arrival Monday, 21 baby chicks. We knew they were coming, we just thought they were shipping Monday and not arriving. The post office called while we were getting ready to take the dogs to the vet saying we had something that needed picked up immediately. We were only partially prepared for their arrival and we started scrambling to finishing setting things up. I was thankful Jeremy had finished the brooding box the night before. Sadly we lost one chick last night. We have ten Black Australorps and ten Barred Plymouth Rock, and they’re suppose to be all girls. This will be the first flock of chickens for Hall Farms. I’ll share some other photos later, I’m trying to let them adjust before we handle them too much.

Last year I discovered my love for freezer jam. In my opinion it tastes fresher, and it takes much less work. It is so much less stressful, you don’t have to worry about sealing jars. This is a quick and easy way to prepare a delicious strawberry freezer jam that you can enjoy year round.
